چکیده
The change of the friction law from a mesoscopic level to a macroscopic level is studied in the spring-block models introduced by Burridge-Knopoff. We find that the Coulomb law is always scale invariant. Other proposed scaling laws are only invariant under certain conditions.

We consider the " fractional quantum Hall atom " in the vanishing Zeeman energy limit, and investigate the validity of Hund's maximum-spin rule for interacting electrons in various Landau levels. While it is not valid for electrons in the lowest Landau level, there are regions of filling factors where it predicts the ground state spin correctly provided it is applied to composite fermions. The ...

We consider the method of self-similar renormalization for calculating critical temperatures and critical indices. A new optimized variant of the method for an effective summation of asymptotic series is suggested and illustrated by several different examples. The advantage of the method is in combining simplicity with high accuracy. Typeset using REVTEX 1

Basic features of the conservation laws in the Hamiltonian approach to the Poincaré gauge theory are presented. It is shown that the Hamiltonian is given as a linear combination of ten first class constraints. The Poisson bracket algebra of these constraints is used to construct the gauge generators. By assuming that the asymprotic symmetry is the global Poincaré symmetry, we derived the improv...

For W*-algebras A and self-dual Hilbert A-modules M we show that every selfadjoint, ”compact” module operator on M is diagonalizable. Some specific properties of the eigenvalues and of the eigenvectors are described.
